Once again it is time to gear up for our annual Lasagna Dinner. For those of you who are new to the committee, this is our main fundraising affair which gives us the ability to assist a variety of Democratic candidates. Each year it is very gratifying to see the great effort that everybody on the committee makes in ensuring the success of the dinner.
To get the ball rolling for this year's dinner, we have a sign-up sheet. Please click here to download the sheet, indicate what food you can bring and the kind of help you might be able to give. Return the sheet to Dick Shields, Bob Haley or Bettina Lawson.
Here is a list of jobs that need to be done (and where we need volunteers):

The precinct operations meeting schedued for Thursday evening was cancelled because of the bad weather and the closing of the school where the meeting was to be held. The meeting will be rescheduled, probably for January 24. Watch this space for an update. |

The HMDDC Lasagna Dinner will be March 29, 2008 at the Reston Community Center in the Hunters Woods Village Shopping Center (Colts Neck Rd. & Glade Drive).
The dinner is the largest and most important fund-raising event of the year for Hunter Mill Democrats, and provides a large part of our annual operating budget.
Planning for the event will begin with a meeting Wednesday, January 9, at the library in Dogwood Elementary School, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
We're forming a committee to oversee the event and looking for volunteers to fill several key positions. If you can help, join us at the meeting or contact our cochairs, Bob Haley and Bettina Lawton.
What we need:
Event Coordinator - Advertising and Promotion Coordinator - Reservation and Contribution Coordinator - Facility Coordination - Decorations Coordinator- Setup and Cleanup Coordinator -
We'll also need plenty of volunteers to help these coordinators, so please come be a part of the action, even if you can't act as coordinator.

The results of the 2007 election were extremely good. Democrats now have a majority in the Virginia Senate and picked up a few seats in the House, as well. Among the Hunter Mill candidates, the biggest victory went to Chap Peterson, who soundly defeated incumbent Jeannearie Devolites Davis. Sen. Janet Howell and Sen. Mark Herring held their seats, as did delegates Steve Shannon and Ken Plum. You can see a full list of the returns here. |

On November 6, Virginians will have an opportunity to make a statement that will reverberate around the nation. Only a small number of states have legislative elections in 2007. What happens here will be noticed.
We'll be voting for members of the House of Delegates, the Virginia Senate and many county and local office, but there are no statewide races or federal races this time around.
Some things to think about:
- Because turnout will be low, a small number of votes in a few key
precincts will make a huge difference. We can win some seats we might
not have a chance to win in a high-turnout election.
- If
Democrats gain control of the Virginia Senate, it will make the state a
top-tier contest for the presidential candidates, both in the primary
and in the general election. That means the candidates will have to
come here and listen to us, something that hasn't happened in years. The effect will be magnified if Dems also control the House.
- Just as important, by turning Virginia blue, we will give a huge
boost in momentum to Democrats everywhere, especially in the states
where crucial battles will be fought next year.
- Finally, the people we elect on Tuesday are those who most
directly affect our lives. They determine how are schools are run, what
intersections get improved, how many parks we have, how many homes can
be built in a subdivision, what roads are repaired, how the state deals
with transportation and development. All the stuff we live with every
day.
So here's the game plan to make Virginia a bellwhether:
Vote.
Get everyone in your family to vote.
Remind every Democrat you know to vote.
And check with them at least once on election day to make sure they voted.

A Great Slate of Candidates |
|
|
|
This year in Hunter Mill District, we have a great slate of Deomocratic candidates to support.
They're all good solid Virginia progressives, with close ties to their community and a record of supporting your values at the state and local level.
In 2007, it is critically important that we support these fine men and women as much as we can, and urge our firends and neighbors to support them, and above all to vote in November.
If you would like to learn more about the candidates, click the links below.
