Annual Meeting “Gerrymandering in Virginia -What’s
At
Stake?”
LWVFA is proud to present for our January 24, 2009 General Meeting a panel discussion,
with question and answer period, on the subject of redistricting reform
in Virginia – a topic dear to the hearts of Leaguers and good
government advocates across the Commonwealth. The meeting will
take place at the Country Club of Fairfax, 5110 Ox Road (entrance off
Route 123 at the corner of Ox & Braddock Roads) Fairfax VA
22030. Registration starts at 10AM; the discussion begins at
10:30 AM. A luncheon will follow the panel discussion.
Titled: “Gerrymandering in Virginia—What’s At Stake?” the seminar will
be moderated by Sara Fitzgerald from the Falls Church LWV who also
served on the League state redistricting committee that published two
major studies on the subject in September 2006 and November, 2006 (see
publications page of this website for study material contained in
respective Bulletins/Voters). Panelists will include Dr. Michael
McDonald from George Mason University and the Brookings Institute and
State Delegate Kenneth Plum (D-36). Also invited are State Senator
Kenneth Cuccinelli (R-37) and a representative from the Redistricting
Coalition.
