Looking for a way to get more involved in the political process?
The Virginia Democratic Party, Fairfax County Democratic Committee and Huntermill District Democratic Committee have plenty of opportunities for those who would like to join or volunteer.
To join the committee, download this form and return it to a committee officer.
The presidential primaries are over. Barack Obama is the nominee of the Democtratic Party.
We are a unified party.
It's now time to make history. Over the summer and into the fall, there will be many events and many opportunities to volunteer, to contribute and to get involved.
Contact your precinct captain or any member of HMDDC to join us in turning Virginia blue.
Primary June 10
Please note that there will be a primary election June 10.
There will be contested elections in the 8th, 10th and 11th Congressional Districts, so that means that all Hunter Mill precincts will be involved in the primary.
Turnout is expected to be low, especially in the 8th District, so every vote will count -- probably more than in any election in a while.
Please vote and please tell all your friends to vote June 10.
Delegates to State Convention Chosen
Delegates from Hunter Mill District to the congressional district and state party conventions have been selected. No caucus was necessary, as the number of filings for delegate spots were sufficient to fill slates without the need for a vote. All who filed were accepted as delegates.
Congressional district conventions will be held May 17. Locations and times can be found on the calendar in the right column of this page.
The state party convention will be June 14 at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.
Caucus/Convention Season Starts
The February 12 presidential primary was just the first step in the process of nominating a presidential candidate -- at least here in Virginia.
Here is what happens next:
The nine magisterial districts, including Hunter Mill, will hold caucuses on April 19, where we will select delegates to the congressional district conventions and the state party convention.
At the congressional district conventions, which will be held in May, delegates will select 54 national convention delegates and 11 alternates, apportioned between Sen. Clinton and Sen. Obama. At the state convention in June, an additional 18 at-large delegates, 11 party leader and electred official delegates, and 2 unpledged add-on delegates will be selected. All, except for the unpledged delegates, will be apportioned between the candidates.
We'll have additional details about the process for filing as a delegate in the next couple of weeks, so check back.
We Have A New Precinct
Effective January 16, 2008 Hunter Mill District precinct 238, Cameron Glen, has been created by splitting the Reston #1 precinct.
Reston #1 will continue to vote at the Lake Anne
Elementary School. Cameron Glen precinct will vote at the North County
Human Services Building located at 1850 Cameron Glen Drive, Reston.
The precinct was divided to reduce size and to allow for additional growth in this
area.
Reston #1 voters should check on their appropriate voting
location.
HMDDC will need another Precinct Captain!
Primary Day Volunteers Needed
Hunter Mill Dems, along with the other districts in Fairfax County, will have a high-visibility presence at polling locations during the February 12 presidential primary election. This will be one of the best opportunities we have to identify Democrats who are engaged in the presidential nominating process and may want to get involved in party activities over the summer and fall. As it has been in most primary states this year, we expect turnout to set new records.
To make sure every precinct is covered, we need all committee members to help man the polls on Feb. 12. If you can contribute some time that day, please contact your precinct captain and join the effort.
Using the HMDDC Calendar
The Hunter Mill District Democratic Committee has a nifty event calendar (in the right-most column).
There are several ways to use the calendar. If you want to see what's happening on a given day, just click on that day. You also can see a list of upcoming events just below the calendar display. Clicking on an item gives you more information about it.
If you want to contribute a calendar item, you can register for a login account on the site and once you're logged in, you can post events. Otherwise, send items for listing on the calendar to
